The armoured motors boasts the best protection of any vehicle from the British manufacturer to date.

Fitted with more than a tonne of armour plating and bulletproof glass, it’s able to withstand attacks from powerful weaponry including improved explosive devices (IEDs).

Even the roof and floor of the vehicle are blast-protected, making the Range Rover safer from attacks from all directions.

It comes with a unique emergency escape system, which allows the occupants to exit through the rear luggage compartment even if the doors can’t be opened.

Equipped with a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine, the hefty SUV has a 0-60mph time of 9.8 seconds and a limited top speed of 120mph.

Land Rover are yet to reveal how much the armoured vehicle will cost, but chances are it will fetch close to half a million pounds.

The first Sentinel, introduced in 2015, came with a whopping £400,000 price tag.

Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations cars are popular among world leaders, MPs and wealthy VIPs, and are often used in conjunction with police protection.

Michael Van Der Sande, Managing Director at Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations, said: “The Range Rover Sentinel delivers the exceptional protection and security required by our VIP clients without compromising the superior refinement of the latest Range Rover.

“The addition of the more powerful 5.0-litre Supercharged V8 engine and a redesigned interior ensures a heightened level of performance and occupant safety.”

Other automakers have started to equip their cars with bulletproof technology, with recent figures revealing there are between 200,000 and 300,000 armoured vehicles worldwide.

Earlier this year, Volvo unveiled a 4.5-tonne motor which is capable of withstanding gunfire and explosions.

It even has a secret escape route in the middle of the backseat in case of an emergency.
